The Crotched Mountain Special Olympics delegation was represented by 30 athletes that competed in Snowshoe, Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, Snowboarding, and Adaptive Skiing. These athletes competed in 81 heats. We will post the place results when we have them tallied.
Over 550 athletes from all over the state (and some from Rhode Island ) competed at the Winter Games at Waterville Valley. Special Olympics New Hampshire arranged our accommodations at the luxury condo's of the Golden Eagle Resort. They organized the Opening Ceremonies where there was a parade of athletes, inspiring speeches from Athletes that will attend the World Games in Japan, a parade of Police from all over the state, the torch lighting, and terrific fireworks. The highlight for Crotched Mountain was when Chester Eastwood led the Special Olympics Oath for the 1000+ people in attendance.
Our delegation of 30 athletes turned into one of close to 90 people when you factor in all of the staff (including third shift), nurses, and the many family members that came to share in the joy and to show their support. |
The Crotched Mountain community should be very proud of all the athletes in attendance. In addition, we should be proud of the coaches, and staff that helped to make our participation possible. The staff that went to the event were nothing short of outstanding! However, there are many others that are not always thought of that really helped too. Kelly Ward and the staff in finance ensured that we not only were supported financially, but in a flexible way that made things a bit easier for a group of people that have been working long hours preparing for this event. Ron at the Barn went out of his way to make sure that we had the vehicle support for a smooth trip. The carpentry crew gave up their vehicle so that we could bring sports and other necessary equipment along for the trip.
These are just a couple of examples of supportive efforts that this community provides to benefit the people we serve and the people that serve them. Congratulations and many thanks to all of you for your support!
