According to Crotched Mountain and Harry Gregg Foundation president Donald Shumway, the funds will be used to supplement individual grants made to children under going medical treatments. “These grants are of vital importance to low-income families who often have to travel hundreds of miles several times per month for treatments and therapies,” explains Shumway. “We deeply appreciate the generous donation from Ira Lexus of Manchester along with the matching gift from the Lexus corporate headquarters.” “Lexus has always been focused on the future,” said Robert Ramos, general manager of Ira Lexus of Manchester. “That’s why we support organizations and charities that improve children’s lives through our Pursuit of Potential SM initiative, whereby Lexus will matchup to $1 million of its dealers’ donations.” “As a resident of Greenfield myself,” notes Robert Vaillancourt, general sales manager of Ira Lexus of Manchester, “I know that Crotched Mountain has been serving children with disabilities for decades. We’re honored to support such a worthwhile cause.” HARRY GREGG FOUNDATION - 2007 IN REVIEW In 2007, The HGF made 567 grants totaling $204,782.42. Grants averaged $360. Thirty percent of applicants to the were age 60 or older, 31% were age 21 or younger and 37% were between the ages of 22 and 59. Projects for which funds were most frequently requested were: Lifts, ramps, stair-glides and elevators; Dental treatment; Hearing aids; Transportation-related projects; Home & bath modifications. Tillotson Fund Helps North Country Residents The Neil and Lousie Tillotson Fund of the New Hampshire Charitiable Foundation (NHCF) recently awarded $15,000 to the Harry Gregg Foundation to assist residents with disabilities from the towns of Berlin, Colebrook and surrounding areas. “The North Country is home to the highest number of elderly and disabled residents in the state and we want to make sure they’re getting the help they need,” said HGF president Don Shumway. “We’re very grateful to the Tillotson Fund and NHCF for this award. ”Over the past 12 months applications to the HGF have almost doubled while requests from the North Country have almost tripled. Over the last four quarters grants totaling $12,200 were awarded to North Country residents in response to requests of over $23,000. “This grant will allow us to better meet the needs of North Country residents with disabilities and chronic illnesses who often struggle to remain independent,” said Don. Since 1990, the Harry Gregg Foundation has awarded over 5,000 grants to individuals in New Hampshire totaling more than $1,500,000 for a wide array of equipment and services. A total of $40,000 has been designated for recreational grants starting in January 2008. Last year, the HGF gave $45,000 to 169 people with disabilities for camp tuition, dance classes, fitness club memberships, horseback riding and other recreational pursuits. Grants were awarded to 83 children and 86 adults. Grants are again limited to $300 and award amounts are dependent upon income. When submitting an application, please make sure all sections are complete and a separate physician’s diagnosis of the applicant’s disability is included.
