Therapeutic Recreation

Protocol:	Special Olympics Golf
Purpose:	To improve social, emotional, cognitive and physical abilities through participation in golf.
Facilitator:	CTRS
Duration:	4-6 / 2 hour practices over 6 weeks – 2 all-day tournaments
Capacity:
Location:	Crotched Mountain Resort (practices) & various courses for tournaments

Goals: Participant will increase fine motor function. Improve confidence and self-esteem Develop friendships Increase social skills Develop positive sportsmanship skills Improve hand / eye coordination Increase gross motor functioning Increase fine motor functioning Following Directions Follow through on commitments Understand and demonstrate basic rules/skills/etiquette of the game Increase attention to task
Participation Requirements: Ability to independently swing a golf club Possess the mobility skills consistent with golf Ability to follow or respond to at least 1 verbal/signed command Display interest in activity Ability to tolerate an active environment for up to 3 hours
Discharge Criteria: Completion of season Discharge from CMRC Inappropriate or agitated behavior demonstrated two times throughout the season.
Precautions: Attendance is not permitted for member present with a contagious and/or infectious disease. Group facilitator should be aware and familiar with client behavior plans when applicable. Facilitator should be aware of client health conditions which may pose significant risks through activities.
