Dr. Cooley has focused his life work on developing and promoting the essentials of high quality, family-centered, comprehensive, accessible, continuous, and culturally effective health care for all children, and especially children and youth with special health care needs. Dr. Cooley's passion to deliver the highest standards of care has always recognized the primary importance of putting children and parents at the center of health care, empowering parents in health care decisions, and of working collaboratively with families to optimize care within the community.
As co-founder of the Center for Medical Home Improvement, Dr. Cooley has established a methodology for evaluating, implementing, and improving medical home care throughout the nation. He has recognized that if the AAP vision of a medical home for every child is to be realized, one must engage in the political process to make this happen. He has worked tirelessly in this arena to advocate for medical home care at the state and national levels. He has generously shared his expertise in numerous presentations and symposia at national conferences and through numerous articles, videos, and books. Under Dr. Cooley's leadership, Crotched Mountain has become a leading center for acute rehabilitation for children and adults in New England.
"Crotched Mountain and the State of New Hampshire are lucky to have a man as dedicated as Dr. Cooley working every day to improve the delivery of community based care," said Don Shumway, President and CEO of Crotched Mountain. "The medical home model is the future of primary care in this country, and the Cal Sia award recognizes that Dr. Cooley is a national leader in the effort to create a better way to care for children and their families."
