To the editor:
All of us at Crotched Mountain wish to express our sense of loss at the passing of a beloved friend, R. Stoning Morrell, Jr. on October 22, 2006 , and extend our condolences to his family and to the staff of Story Land.
Stoney has followed in the footsteps of his parents, Bob and Ruth Morrell, by dedicating much of his life toward improving the lives of people with disabilities and their families. Over the course of five decades, the wishing well at Story Land has raised both public awareness and more than $176,000 in proceeds for the children of Crotched Mountain .
For decades, staff and students from Crotched Mountain have enjoyed visiting Story Land. Through Stoney's leadership, Story Land has become a model of accessibility, providing its visitors of all ages and abilities with fun, family-friendly entertainment. We have many fond memories of our visits with Stoney, particularly the joint celebration on July 6, 2003 of our respective organizations' 50th anniversaries.
In the words of Bessie Stanley, "He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who has left the world better than he found it." It is in that spirit that Stoney will be remembered by children of all ages, particularly those here at Crotched Mountain .
