GREENFIELD, NH Mental health advocate Lizzie Simon, author of Detour: My Bipolar Road Trip in 4-D, will speak at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center on Monday, March 13th at 3:15 pm in Carter Memorial Meeting House.
Ms. Simon grew up in Providence, RI, and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 17. In 1998, she graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor's degree in History. At the age of 23, she traveled across the country to interview people with bipolar disorder who had successfully managed their illness.
Since her book was published in 2002, she has been featured in newspaper and magazine articles as well as on many prominent television shows, including the Connie Chung Show. In 2003, Lizzie was awarded an Eli Lilly Helping Lives Move Forward Reintegration Award along with Congressman Patrick Kennedy and Rosalyn Carter. In 2004, she developed an educational forum with Dr. Gary Sachs from Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital.
