Ages 15 (by day of last class) and up. A 30-hour course designed to teach lifeguard candidates the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. Certification is valid for three years from the date of issue.
The minimum number of students needed to hold this course in 6; no maximum enrollment. Prequisites; the candidate must successfully:
1. Swim 500 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order:

200 yards of front crawl using rythmic breathing and a stabilizing propelling kick (rythmic breathing can be performed either by breathing to the side or front);

100 yards of breast stroke;

200 yards of either front crawl using rythmic breathing, and/or breast stroke.
2. Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breast stroke; surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet; retreive a 10-pound object and return to the surface, and; swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object.
