Mike Helwig, joined Crotched Mountain in 2002. As a Water Safety Instructor, he performs many duties within the Aquatics Department, including teaching water fitness classes and the Learn to Swim lessons. Mike graduated from New England College with a bachelors degree in Kinesiology and double minors in Health and Creative Writing. He has 20 years of competitive swim and coaching experience. He has earned several certifications through the American Red Cross including: Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, as well as being an instructor for CPR and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer. In his spare time, Mike enjoys snowboarding and mountain biking.
Mike Kraskouskas, is a Water Safety Instructor who joined Crotched Mountain in 2001. He performs numerous duties in our therapy and recreational pools along with the continuing education department. Duties range from: scuba diving with students and clients with disabilities; instruction in water fitness; teaching water safety to community participants and partners in special education (including Rindge Memorial and South Meadow schools); as well as providing instruction in American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Training, and Pet First Aid. Mike is a graduate of Norwich University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and a minor in Biology. He has 16 years of competitive swimming experience with three years coaching experience with the Boys and Girls Club of Woburn, MA; the Valley Swim Team in Northfield, VT; and the Triton Aquatic Club in Westboro, MA. He also has teaching experience with the Greater Manchester, Massachusetts Bay, and North Central Massachusetts chapters of the American Red Cross. He enjoys scuba diving: the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans; off the coast of the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Nemos, home to the Great Barrier Reef.
Caitlin McPherson, Aquatics Program Coordinator, joined Crotched Mountain in 2000, having previously worked for the Recreation Department and Elementary School in Peterborough, NH. In her role, she is responsible for coordinating programming, supervising staff, instructing classes, and maintaining the facility. She graduated from the University of New Hampshire, Durham, in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts and a minor in Education. In addition to her athletic pursuits, Caitlin has an interest in American Sign Language (ASL).
Heather Osienski, has been with the Aquatics Depatment at Crotched Mountain since 2000. She is certified through the American Red Cross as a Water Safety Instructor and a Life Guard Instructor. She teaches all levels of the Learn to Swim classes, life guarding and first aid and CPR for the professional rescuer. Heather is an Aquatic Fitness Instructor, certified by the Aquatic Exercise Association, and conducts our water fitness programs and the Stretch Your Stress class. She loves the water and working with people of all ages and abilities and states, "I have learned as much from my students as I have endeavored to teach them."
