Located in Greenfield, NH the Children's Specialty Hospital at Crotched Mountain is a private, nonprofit hospital that provides care for children and young adults up to age 30 with complex medical conditions that range from brain injury to post-surgical care. We offer a 30 bed inpatient unit focusing on acute and subacute rehabilitation and nursing care and a variety of outpatient clinics for ongoing care and support.
Our Philosophy
Our philosophy at the Children's Specialty Hospital is to address the medical needs of children and youth through development of individualized programs of recovery. Our work begins before the patient is discharged from an acute care hospital. An interdisciplinary team evaluates the patient and develops a treatment plan. The team typically includes a case manager, a physician, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, a speech-language therapist and others as required.
Family Centered Care
The therapy team also includes the patient's family which is in accordance with our family-centered philosophy. The family is an integral part of recovery. The Children's Hospital is a warm, friendly environment and families are encouraged to visit at any time.
Our Goal
We are focused on assisting the patient to return home as soon as possible through achievement of measurable outcomes (including use of FIM® scores) that include mobility, self care, communication, cognition and psychosocial adjustment. Discharge planning begins at the time of admission. Vital information about family and community life is gathered to develop a discharge plan. The case manager works closely with families and community service providers to ensure a smooth transition.
The Team
The Crotched Mountain Medical Team is led by Dr. Carl Cooley, Medical Director, a developmental pediatrician with years of specialized experience. Dr. Chris McCartie is the attending physician. Dr. Rocco Chiappini is the team's physiatrist who is also the Associate Medical Director of Crotched Mountain. Sandy Knapp, RN, is director of nursing. The nursing team includes numerous nurses with certificates in rehabilitation nursing and specialty skills such as wound care.
