Michael Wingfield is a performer and teacher with over 20 years experience in the songs and rhythms of the African New World. Through instruments such as conga, bata, shekere, and other percussive arts, Michael imparts the spirit and history of the African diaspora in a way that speaks to today's issues of diversity.
In July 2006, Michael Wingfield held drumming circlesat the Children's Specialty Hospital, Brain Injury Center, Crotched Mountain School, and outside at the Fox Meadow Fire Circle in the evening. Both staff and clients gathered together in the drum circle to learn, to listen, to watch and to make music together.
The results were immediate and joyful! Michael's ability to engage everyone was evident from the first moment. If you were in the room, you were participating. Playing the drums or the bells or singing or dancing or tapping your foot or moving your hand, it was impossible not to be part of the music. We look forward to Michael's return in July 2007!
