Here is a set of clear guidelines to help you make better choices in terms of language and portrayal. The Guidelines explain preferred terminology and offer suggestions for appropriate ways to describe people with disabilities. The Guidelines reflect input from over 100 national disability organizations and has been reviewed and endorsed by media and disability experts throughout the country.
The purpose of the New England Society for Healthcare Communications (NESHCo) shall be to promote cooperative action among practitioners of health care communications in New England. Towards the achievement of this purpose, the Society commits itself to serving the broadening interests, responsibilities and professional development of such individuals. It will promote excellence in advocacy for and standards of the profession through relevant educational programs and services. It will provide for the exchange of ideas and information of value to members and the organizations they serve. NESHCo's membership currently stands at 240 members from the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, Vermont and New Hampshire.
The New England Society for Healthcare Strategy (NESHS) includes over 180 healthcare professionals throughout New England. NESHS offers its members the opportunity to participate in a regional association of healthcare professionals committed to providing professional growth for our members. Our members include healthcare professionals whose work spans a wide range of skills from new business development, web-based business solutions, clinical services analysis to physician practice management involving many disciplines including strategic planning, internet strategy implementation, marketing, financial analysis, data analysis and research and operational responsibilities.
PRSA is the world's largest organization for public relations professionals. Its nearly 20,000 members, organized into 114 chapters, represent business and industry, technology, counseling firms, government, associations, hospitals, schools, professional services firms and nonprofit organizations. Chartered in 1947, PRSA's primary objectives are to advance the standards of the public relations profession and to provide members with professional development opportunities through continuing education programs, information exchange forums and research projects conducted on the national and local levels.
The Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development is the premier organization for 3,700 healthcare professionals responsible for strategy development and implementation in a wide array of healthcare organizations. The Society is one of 12 personal membership groups affiliated with the American Hospital Association.
The Yankee Chapter is comprised of approximately 130 public relations professionals who work in various organizations and in various capacities in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. The Yankee Chapter meets every other month for professional development sessions and networking opportunities. Meetings feature seminars, prominent speakers, workshops and discussions on various topics and issues of interest to those who practice public relations.
