Brain Injury Awareness Day 2006 | |
GREENFIELD , NH Thanks to the amazing support of local and extended family and friends, Crotched Mountain's 4th Annual Brain Injury Awareness Day was another big success. The event took place on Sunday, September 17th for a 5K road race, Fun Walk, and barbecue to bring awareness to and raise funds for the 31-bed Brain Injury Center. Awards for the 5K were handed out to Sam Wood of Laconia who finished with the best men's time, and Emily Sawich of Antrim who finished first among the women.
Altogether, $12,000 was raised, including registration fees, pledges, raffle sales, and donations. All proceeds will directly benefit the Brain Injury Center clients and will be used for special events, outings, specialized equipment, as well as a scholarship fund for special therapeutic opportunities.
"We had beautiful weather, incredible support from our client's families and friends, and many wonderful volunteers who helped to make the day a successful event," remarked Rocco Chiappini, MD, director of the Brain Injury Center. "Thanks to all the support staff as well, especially the kitchen and maintenance people, who consistently do their part to help things flow smoothly."
Raffle prize winners included Martha Hauser of Deerfield, NH, who won the ski pass donated by Crotched Mountain Ski & Ride Area, and John Martin of Peterborough, NH who won the kayak.
