Crotched Mountain Employee Receives "President's Award"
Phil Girard and Dr. Stephen E. Fritz, NEC President
HENNIKER, NH New England College president, Stephen E. Fritz, Ph.D. bestowed the President's Award for Professional Leadership and Academic Excellence in Graduate Studies to Philip Girard, MS of Greenfield, NH during the commencement ceremony held on May 15th.
Girard, a student in the master's program in healthcare administration, was chosen from more than 200 graduate students for this honor. Throughout his course work Girard has maintained a 4.0 grade point average. In his remarks, dean of graduate studies Rick Keating, Ph.D. commended Girard for his "outstanding achievements in building networks to support New Hampshire's distance learning and telehealth initiatives." Girard's master's thesis outlined a plan for building a pediatric rehabilitation network for children with special healthcare needs that would involve a collaboration among regional providers including Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Among those congratulating Girard were Governor John Lynch and media mogul Ted Turner who each received honorary degrees.
Girard serves as director of distance technology and program development for Crotched Mountain in Greenfield, NH where he has been employed since 1996. "We congratulate Phil on this outstanding achievement," remarked Donald L. Shumway, president of Crotched Mountain. "His combined experience in health, education and telecommunications are a great resource to our organization and the communities we serve."
In addition to his role as chair of the Granite State Distance Learning Network, Girard is a member of the New Hampshire Department of Education's technology advisory committee which overseas school technology planning and implementation. He is a 1992 graduate of Notre Dame College in Manchester, NH where he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration.
