Travis Roy | |
GREENFIELD , NH Former hockey player and disability advocate Travis Roy spoke on "Finding Meaning and Succeeding in Spite of the Hurdles" at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Greenfield, in September of 2005.
In October, 1995, only eleven seconds into his first college hockey game at Boston University, Mr. Roy suffered a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the neck down. He went on to graduate from Boston University with a degree in public relations, and is a popular motivational speaker. In 1998, he published his autobiography, Eleven Seconds.
Mr. Roy is an advocate for spinal cord research and speaks at a variety of events including testifying before a Senate Committee hearing for the National Institute of Health in Washington, D.C. He devotes much of his time to the Travis Roy Foundation (www.travisroyfoundation.org), which focuses on finding a cure for spinal cord injuries, and awards grants to individuals for adaptive equipment.
This event is made possible by gifts in memory of Clint Hilliard, former head of the Speech and Hearing Department at Crotched Mountain. The presentation is open to the public at no charge.
