WILLIAM COSSABOON, MS, is the Director of Education for Crotched Mountain School. He received a BS degree in Special Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1972, a MS degree in Therapeutic Recreation, along with a Public School Administration certification from the University of Oklahoma in 1984. During his 37 years in the field of education, 10 years were spent in the classroom as a special education teacher followed by 27 years of experience as a school administrator in public and private schools.
ROCCO CHIAPPINI, MD, CBIS, is the Associate Medical Director of Crotched Mountain and a physiatrist and serves as Director, Brain Injury Center, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Crotched Mountain. He is a 1987 graduate of the University of Virginia and received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1992. Following an internship in internal medicine at Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, NY, Dr. Chiappini completed his residency at Johns Hopkins and Sinai Hospitals. Dr. Chiappini is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Chiappini is a recipient of the Arthur Siebens Award 1996 from Johns Hopkins University. He is the author of numerous publications including "Rational Prescription of Exercise in Managing Low Back Pain" which appeared in Critical Reviews in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine.
W. CARL COOLEY, MD, Chief Medical Officer, is a developmental pediatrician and associate professor of pediatrics at the Dartmouth Medical School. He was formerly the Director of the Dartmouth Center for Genetics and Child Development and the Hood Center for Children and Families sponsoring research, model program development, and technical assistance in support of families of children with disabilities and chronic medical conditions. Prior to his fellowship training in developmental pediatrics, he spent 11 years in community-based pediatric primary care. As co-director of the Center for Medical Home Improvement at Crotched Mountain, he continues to focus his research interests on improving primary care service for children with chronic conditions. He chairs the New Hampshire Pediatric Society's Committee on Children with Disabilities and has served on the same committee at the national level for the American Academy of Pediatrics for which he authored a new set of practice parameters for caring for children with cerebral palsy. The New Hampshire Pediatrics Society named him Pediatrician of the Year for 2001.
JON ERIQUEZZO, Executive Director of Crotched Mountain Residential Services, arrived at Crotched Mountain in October, 2001. Jon earned his bachelor's degree in Human Services and his master's degree in Organizational Management and Leadership from Springfield College, and has over 25 years experience working in the field of developmental disabilities. He has held similar positions at LifeStream, Inc., in New Bedford, Massachusetts; Developmental Services of Strafford County in Dover; and The Plus Company, Inc., in Nashua. Jon has also served as a mental illness management case worker for the Area Agency for Developmental Services of Greater Nashua, and worked as a residential coordinator for the Society to Advance the Retarded and Handicapped in Norwalk, Connecticut.
JOSEPH FERMANO, Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer, previously served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Managing Director of Fermano Associates, a national health care services consulting company and Executive Vice President of Operations and Chief Financial Officer of ManagedComp, a national insurance sales and service company. He holds a Masters in Business Administration and a BSBA, Accounting, from Suffolk University, Boston Massachusetts. He is actively involved with Financial Executives International, on the Board of Trustees of Neurofibromatosis, Northeast and was formerly Treasurer and Board Member of the Massachusetts Artery Business Committee, and Treasurer and Board Member of the Massachusetts Caring for Children Foundation.
JERRY HUNTER, Vice President/Information Services, worked at the Foundation from 1993 to 1997 as the Information Services director. He returned in August, 1998, to assume the role of Associate Vice President/Information Services and Chief Information Officer. His experience includes IS Director for ADS Management, Inc., which is a leading management company for nursing homes and skilled-nursing facilities in Massachusetts. He has held various IS managerial positions at manufacturing and technology companies. He has a B.S. in Technical Management from New Hampshire College as well as a four-year diploma in music from Berklee College of Music.
SANDRA KNAPP, Director of Nursing, is a Registered Nurse who worked for 27 years for the State of New Hampshire with mentally ill and developmentally disabled adult/elderly before coming to Crotched Mountain; six of those years were in direct care and administrative nursing positions, and twenty-one years were as administrator of Glencliff Home for the Elderly. She received an Associate's Degree from NHTI, a Bachelor's Degree from Plymouth State University, and has earned advanced certifications from the ANA in Nursing Management, and from the ACHCA as a Certified Nursing Home Administrator, Fellow. Sandy served seven years on the New Hampshire Board of Nursing and has been very active around special education issues at both the state and local level.
MARGARET LINS, Vice President/Senior Services and Community Health, is a Registered Nurse and has a Master's Degree in Human Services from Springfield College. Peg came to Crotched Mountain Community Care as Program Director in 1994. Prior to that she developed and directed a Private Care Management Program at McKerley Nursing Homes. For eight years she worked at the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services as Medical Consultant for the Office of Medical Services. She co-developed the HCBC-ECI Program, following federal rules and regulations.
MICHAEL REDMOND, Vice President/Advancement, responsible for fundraising, marketing, corporate communications and planning, joined Crotched Mountain on November 1, 1999, from The Whelan Group in New York City where he was a Senior Consultant specializing in strategic planning and fundraising management services for not-for-profit institutions. He previously held executive and staff positions at several non-profit organizations in the New York City metropolitan area. His undergraduate degree is from Boston College, and he holds a Master of Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina, and an M.B.A. from Columbia University.
DONALD L. SHUMWAY, President & CEO, joined Crotched Mountain in August, 2002, after serving as Commissioner of the Department of Health and Human Services for the State of New Hampshire. He has served as co-director of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation initiative "Self-Determination for Persons with Developmental Disabilities," and as Director of the Division of Mental Health and Developmental Services for the State of New Hampshire. He earned his B.A. in Psychology at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst, and his masters in Social Services from Bryn Mawr.
MICHAEL TERRIAN, Vice President, Administration/Facilities, has served in these roles since 1984 in conjunction with the role as CMRC's Nursing Home Administrator. He came to the Rehabilitation Center over 33 years ago as a special education teacher and also served as Director of Residential Services. He has a B.S. in Elementary/Special Education from Keene State College and is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator for the State of New Hampshire. He is a member of the New Hampshire Hospital Association, New Hampshire Health Care Association, American College of Healthcare Executives, New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the National Association of Private Schools for Exceptional Children, and more. In the fall of 2003, he was appointed by the Governor to the State Rehabilitation Council.
KATHERINE THONIS, Director of Clinical Services, began her work at Crotched Mountain in the spring of 1999, initially responsible for the development of outreach services. In 2003, her role expanded to include the oversight of the clinical areas. Prior to coming to Crotched Mountain, Kathy worked for the Area Agency for Developmental Services of Greater Nashua for thirteen years. She held several positions there in the areas of case management, family support, and community program development. Kathy received her B.A. Degree in Sociology and Education from Smith College and her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of New Hampshire.
