Harry Gregg Foundation Announces Funds For North Country

1/22/2008 - Greenfield, NH

GREENFIELD , NH — The Harry Gregg Foundation in Greenfield, NH, which provides funds to New Hampshire residents with disabilities announced a $15,000 grant from the Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation (NHCF) to assist residents with disabilities from the towns of Colebrook, Berlin and surrounding areas.

"The North Country is home to the highest number of elderly and disabled residents in the state and we want to make sure they're getting the help they need," said HGF president Don Shumway. "We're very grateful to the Tillotson Fund and NHCF for this award."

Over the past 12 months, applications to the HGF almost doubled while requests from the North Country almost tripled. Over the last four quarters, grants totaling $12,200 were awarded to North Country residents in response to requests of over $23,000.

"This grant will allow us to help North Country residents with disabilities and chronic illnesses to remain independent and active members of their communities," said Shumway.

The Harry Gregg Foundation gives grants to people in New Hampshire with disabilities for products and services that will improve their independence and quality of life.

The foundation board of trustees meets four times a year to review applications. Grants are limited to $1200, but are often less due to the large numbers of applications received.

Applications and guidelines are available at www.crotchedmountain.org, or by calling 603-547-3311, ext 1490.

The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has been working to improve the quality of life in our communities since 1962. It builds and manages a collection of funds, currently totaling more than $400 million, created by individuals, families and corporations for general charitable purposes.
