GREENFIELD-NH The Eagles of Crotched Mountain School were ready to soar as fans gathered in the school gym for the annual Crotched Mountain School March Madness basketball event. The Blue team, with Don Tilton as coach, played opposite the White team coached by Armand Comtois. Sports commentator John Young gave a play by play of the games to the fans while Michael Crowe was the referee.
Chelsea opened March Madness by presenting the American flag as Kyle sang the national anthem. Next, Principal Bill Cossaboon went to center court for the ceremonial tip off.
Competition was fierce right from the start as the White team scored two points within the first minute of the game. By the end of the first quarter, White team maintained their lead with a score of 6:4. It was clear to see that the players on each team got a chance to show their skills as the ball travelled up and down the court, and there were a few surprise play such as when Elliot made a basket. Elliot's effort was rewarded by a loud cheer from the stands. In the end, the White team prevailed with a final score of 20:16.
Next, students in wheelchairs, tricycles, and wheeled walkers made their way onto the court to form teams for the second game of the day. The fact that these teams used wheels to get around didn't slow them down as each team raced, with the help of their staff, between two floor baskets. The school cheered the teams on as basket after basket was made. The Blue team won the game with a final score of 20:24.
