Fierce Competition on the Field Between the Eagles and Cougars

5/28/2010 - Greenfield, NH

GREENFIELD, NH- On Friday, May 28th , the Contoocook School Cougars and the Crotched Mountain Eagles met on Hayden field under a clear blue sky to play their last softball game of the season.

The usual organizers were there. Phys. Ed. Teacher Don Tilton was coach for the Eagles while Carlie Wardell of The Contoocook School coached the Cougars. Mike Crowe was the umpire andJohn Young the sports announcer giving play-by-play commentary.

The Cougars had an early lead with 3 runs made in the first inning and many hits to outfield. By the bottom of the first, the Eagles tied up the score 3:3. Many good plays were made such as Buddy of the Eagles speeding to the bag after hitting the ball over the heads of the spectators. It was a constant battle back and forth as the Cougars continued to make runs and the Eagles kept after them keeping the score close.

By the top of the 3rd the Cougars held a 2 point lead over the Eagles 5:4. The game was only to have 4 innings. However, the Eagles were able to tie up the score again 10:10. The game then went for a 5th inning and both teams gave it everything they had. The final score for the game was 18:17 Cougars.

The coaches, students, teachers and other spectators in the stands were proud of the way the teams played. A healthy experience of competition has be shared by all this season. Both teams look forward to competing again next Fall.
