The Foundation was established in 1989 and is dedicated to the memory of Harry Alan Gregg, who died in 1972. His legacy is one of compassion for New Hampshire's children and adults who have physical, emotional, or intellectual disabilities. He was the founder of the Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center, in Greenfield, New Hampshire, a treatment facility for children with disabilities which opened in 1953.
New Hampshire residents of any age who have physical, intellectual, or emotional disabilities (and/or their families) are eligible to apply for funding through the Harry Gregg Foundation.
Funds may be requested many purposes but must generally benefit the person with a disability. Examples of acceptable purposes include, but are not limited to:
- Costs of medical, dental, vision, hearing, or therapy treatments not covered by insurance or other programs
- Purchasing special equipment, services, or supplies
- Modifications to living area, workplace, or vehicle
- Respite services
- Recreational activities
- Vocational, educational, or driver training
Grants are an average of $400. Grants for recreational activities are a maximum of $250.
It's easy. Fill out and submit an application to the Foundation. We will acknowledge receipt and let you know the date it will be reviewed. If you have any questions about the application process, please call us.
Awards are based on the applicant's demonstrated need of a product or service, his/her financial circumstances, and the ability of the Foundation to improve the quality of life of a grant recipient. Final decisions on all applications are made by the Trustees at their quarterly meetings, usually held in January, April, July, and October. Applications should be received at least one month prior to any scheduled meeting. You will be notified of the Board's decision on your request within one week of its meeting.
The grant may be paid directly to the recipient, or to a vendor or service provider. Invoices or billing statements for products or services awarded in the grant must be submitted and verified before payment can be made.
To be sure that the Foundation can help as many people as possible, an individual can only receive a maximum of four grants, and no more than two applications can be reviewed per year. If your request is not funded, you may reapply again six months later for the same or a different purpose. Each application should be complete and not rely on any previously submitted information.
Awards are granted on the basis of the applicant's demonstrated need for a product or service, his/her financial circumstances, and the ability of the Foundation to help improve the quality of life of a grant recipient.
In the past, grants have been awarded for wheelchairs, adaptive automobile controls, ramps, summer camp tuition, hearing aids, computer equipment, therapeutic recreation, respite care services, medical and dental bills, health and personal aids, prostheses and many other needed goods and services. The grant may be paid directly to the recipient, or a vendor or service provider.
