Crotched Mountain > Information About Us  > HISTORY

Crotched Mountain has been serving people with disabilities and their families since 1936. We invite you to learn more about the evolution of our programs and services and the remarkable people and places associated with our history.

We are in the process of establishing an archives here to collect, organize, and preserve a wide variety of materials that document Crotched Mountain's history. Anyone interested in supporting this effort is encouraged to contact us.

A Tribute to  Don Kent

People often ask us about Don Kent, the legendary meteorologist who featured children from Crotched Mountain on his broadcasts from WBZ-TV in Boston. He and his wife Miriam returned to Crotched Mountain in the Fall of 2003 for a tribute celebrating 40+ years of friendship. We invite you to view the PowerPoint slide show, Honoring Our Good Friend, Don Kent, that was created for that event. Please be patient, as it may take a few minutes to download the file.

Nashua Fresh Air Camp

Between 1925-1984, hundreds of young people from Nashua, NH looked forward to spending part of their summer on Sunset Lake, at the base of Crotched Mountain. We've recently acquired the property and are transforming it into a recreational area for people of all ages and abilities.

School for the Deaf

Crotched Mountain operated New Hampshire's only School for the Deaf from 1955-1979.
