Internship Training Programs

Determining your Eligibility as an Intern Candidate and as a Trainee Candidate

All participants:

  • must be at least 20 years of age on or before the program start date.
  • must be available on the scheduled semester arrival date. See Program Calendar
  • must be capable of conducting conversations in English at regular speed with few mistakes
  • must have sufficient financial support (See Budget Worksheet in YMCA application)

Internships must relate to candidate's academic field. An 'Intern' candidate has either:

a) enrolled in and is pursuing studies at a degree or certificate granting post-secondary academic institution outside the US, or...
b) graduated from a degree or certificate granting post-secondary institution outside the US within 12 months of internship training program start date.

Training Programs

must relate to candidate's occupational field. A 'Trainee' candidate has either:

a) a degree or professional certificate from a post-secondary academic institution outside the US and at least one year of prior and related work experience in his/her occupational field, outside the US, or...
b) at least five years of prior and related work experience in his/her occupational field, outside the US.
