The American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) is the largest, national membership organization representing the interests and need of recreational therapists. Recreational therapists are health care providers using recreational therapy interventions for improved functioning of individuals with illness or disabling conditions. ATRA, was incorporated in the District of Columbia in 1984 as a non-profit, grassroots organization in response to growing concern about the dramatic changes in the health care industry. As a result of this response, ATRA has grown from a membership of 60 individuals in June 1984 to 4,500 in 1999.
CMSR is the ski area that has helped our adaptive ski program take its first steps in providing skiing for our clients and the community.
NCTRC is the nationally recognized credentialing organization for the profession of therapeutic recreation. Established in 1981, as an independent non-profit organization, NCTRC represents over 16,000 Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists employed within a variety of healthcare and human service settings.
The National Therapeutic Recreation Society is a branch of the National Recreation and Park Association. NTRS specializes in the provision of therapeutic recreation services for persons with disabilities in clinical facilities and in the community. NTRS members include practitioners, administrators, educators, volunteers, students, and consumers.
NEHSA is a group of people who pool their knowledge, skill and courage to participate in sports activities. Skiing, however, is still the central sport because of its amazing adaptability to many types of disabilities. NEHSA was founded in 1972 as a non-profit organization run by and for disabled persons who wanted to enjoy active and independent lives through participation in sports. NEHSA offers adaptive ski and Snowboard lessons to people of all ages and all disabilities. At Mount Sunapee Resort, where our homebase and winter program reside, skiers participate in either a stand up or sit-down program, some people try both. Year round activities include, waterskiing, golf tournament, camping and canoe trip, and several fund raising events/activities.
NETRA promotes professionalism in Therapeutic Recreation for the New England region.
Northeast Passage serves individuals with disabilities, their families, and community to explore health, wellness, access, sports and recreation.
SONH is a non-profit organization providing sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with mental challenges in New Hampshire.
