Therapeutic Recreation

Protocol:
Adaptive Skiing/ Snowboarding
Purpose:
To improve social, emotional, cognitive, and physical abilities through participation in skiing/snowboarding. 
Facilitator:
CTRS
Duration: 3 two hour sessions (dependant on weather)
Capacity:
4 per session
Location:
Crotched Mountain Ski Area

Goals:

  1. Increase gross motor function.
  2. Improve Social Skills
  3. Improve physical fitness
  4. Follow through on commitments 
  5. Introduce participants to a healthy leisure lifestyle
  6. Improve confidence and self esteem
  7. Understand/develop basic adaptive skiing/snowboarding skills
  8. Develop friendships
  9. Develop positive sportsmanship skills

Participation Requirements:

  1. Ability to tolerate activity environment for up to an hour.
  2. Display interest in activity
  3. Ability to follow or respond to at least 1 verbal/signed instruction

Discharge Criteria:

  1. Completion of season 
  2. Discharge for CMRC
  3. Individual does not meet participation requirements. 
  4. Inappropriate or agitated behavior demonstrated two times during the season.

Precautions:

  1. Attendance is not permitted for those presenting with contagious/infectious disease.
  2. Individual’s with health conditions that may pose a significant risk through participation
