Therapeutic Recreation

Adaptive Sports

Teamwork. Confidence. Skills. Thrills. These are just four reasons why we believe people of all abilities should have a chance to participate in sports. At Crotched Mountain, we give our students and clients from our Brain Injury Center and Children's Specialty Hospital opportunities to experience a variety of sports here on our campus and at partnering sites in the local community. TR customize our Adaptive Sports programs to each individual by modifying sporting equipment, providing support from specially-trained professionals; and using universally accessible facilities. Depending upon the season, staffing, and the interests of our students and clients, Therapeutic Recreation offers a variety of Adaptive Sports including:

Fishing

Designed to introduce individuals to fishing and learn the skills of fishing like casting, reeling, baiting the hook, and taking the fish off the hook. We have two adaptive fishing poles that help reel in the line. One can be controlled by the individual through a switch and the other is controlled by a joystick. These poles make it possible for more individuals to experience the feel of catching a fish. Fishing is an event that happens once or twice a summer.

Prerequisites:

  1. Ability to tolerate being outside for and hour or more.
  2. Safety while using a fishing pole and hook.
  3. Safety around the water.
