After many winters traveling all over the northeast to ski with other adaptive programs, the Therapeutic Recreation Department and Adaptive Ski Program at Crotched Mountain collaborated with Crotched Mountain Ski and Ride to create our very own Adaptive Snow Sports Program. Through many meetings, phone calls, and logistics planning we never would have been able to make this happen without all of the hard work of the committed staff here at Crotched Mountain.
The core members of the program who worked with participants one to three days a week to develop skills in adaptive skiing were: Jessie Bennett, Geoff Garfinkle, Molly Hajjar, Kristin Harris, Becca Krest and John Young. In addition to skiing with the participants and daily logistical work of the inaugural program a strong relationship was formed with many levels of the ski area’s organization.
Overall, the program would not have been possible without continued support from residential staff, transportation, Brain Injury Center, Hayden, school staff, therapists, case managers, families and many more in making this possible for the participants in this program.
We would also like to thank all the staff who accompanied participants to the ski area, our first season at Crotched Mountain Ski and Ride was a success because of your dedication to the program: Tom Badgley, Rhonda Barkley, Jan Bevacqua, Don Butler, Don Crooker, Steve
Dillion, Angela Fletcher, Tanya Grant, Dennis Green, Patty Heath, Annie Holt, Chris Kinsman, Kelly McCormick, Meghan
McWha, Pam Nation, Jed Paroli, Lisa Prescott, Diana Ramirez, Christian
Sayan, Beth Simpson, David Simpson Jr., Susan Sperry, Michele Stelling, Abbigail
Teachout, Jake Terry, Robert Varley, and Brian Wilkins.
On March 18th Crotched Mountain Adaptive Ski Program held a raffle at Crotched Mountain Ski and Ride to raise awareness of adaptive skiing in the region. We would like to thank John Young for spearheading the raffle and everyone who purchased raffle tickets to allow the adaptive program to raise over $3,000.
