BRAIN INJURY CENTER Every fifteen seconds in the U.S., there is an accident that results in a traumatic brain injury. Every minute, someone experiences a stroke. It is impossible to prepare for the devastating effects of such an event, yet it can happen to any one of us at any time. Neither the survivor nor the family can imagine the emotional, social and financial struggles that lie ahead. But help is available at the Brain Injury Center at Crotched Mountain in Greenfield, New Hampshire. The Brain Injury Center Located forty-five minutes from Manchester, N.H. and two hours from Boston, the Brain Injury Center is a thirty bed specialty hospital dedicated to the rehabilitation of adults who have experienced a brain injury through trauma, stroke, or other causes. The Crotched Mountain Brain Injury Center has been open since 1985. The focus at Crotched Mountain is on individually structured and client-centered programming that works in partnership with the family. Small case loads foster a high degree of individual attention, with a direct care ratio of three to four clients to one staff member. Our goal is a successful return to community and family with the highest level of independence and quality of life. The Rehabilitation Process Utilizing an interdisciplinary team approach, the rehabilitation process begins with a thorough evaluation. In order to set goals for the client's rehabilitation, it is important to learn about his or her life prior to the brain injury. The rehabilitation team works in partnership with the family to develop an Individual Rehabilitation Plan specifying goals and discharge objectives. Our approach to brain injury rehabilitation is centered on the recovery of functional skills and independent living capabilities. Clients are expected to take an active role in, and work very hard at, their own rehabilitation.
