DEVELOPMENTAL PEDIATRICS AN OUTPATIENT CLINIC OFFERING DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC EVALUATIONS FOR CHILDREN WITH COGNITIVE, BEHAVIORAL, AND PHYSICAL CHALLENGES. Our Philosophy As developmental pediatricians, we use an interdisciplinary approach in a family-centered care environment that allows us to meet needs comprehensively. Who should come to the clinic? We serve children with disabilities from from birth through adolescence. Disabilities include:developmental disorders such as attention deficit disorder (ADD), mental retardation, and autism; genetic conditions such as Down syndrome; and other neurological impairments that may be accompanied by behavior disorders. We also provide support for expectant parents who believe their baby may have a developmental condition. What is a developmental pediatrics assessment? A developmental pediatrics assessment is conducted by a developmental pediatrician. It includes obtaining a comprehensive history and conducting a complete medical examination in order to establish an accurate diagnosis. While some developmental conditions can be diagnosed at birth, others cannot be diagnosed until later. Based upon the needs of the child, specific interventions are recommended. Potential recommendations encompass a wide range of disciplines including psychopharmacology or other medical treatments, behavioral consultation, educational programming, and clinical services such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and audiology. Is follow-up provided? Yes. Follow-up appointments are scheduled as necessary for medication management, developmental monitoring, and guidance for access to school and community services. Follow-up appointments are scheduled according to the needs of the child, and may occur monthly, semi-annually, or annually. How can I schedule an appointment? Appointments are scheduled by referral through the child’s regular pediatrician. Insurance pre-authorization is usually required both for initial assessments, as well as for follow-up appointments. Our intake coordinator can provide you with information about scheduling an appointment, and will guide you through the intake process. Medical Staff W.
